Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1 Oct 2026 — As global trade landscapes evolve and economies seek greater stability, strengthening cross-border collaboration has never been more vital.
Dr Robert Yap, Executive Chairman of YCH Group and Co-Chairman of the Malaysia Singapore Business Council (MSBC) Singapore, joined government and industry leaders at the MSBC Business Lunch and Dialogue in Kuala Lumpur to advance practical initiatives that can deepen bilateral economic cooperation and make it easier for businesses to operate across both economies.
The dialogue brought together YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, and His Excellency Mr Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry. Alongside key industry leaders, they explored ways to build upon the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and expand cooperation beyond it. A central focus of the discussion was strengthening supply-chain resilience through robust regional production networks, diversified sourcing strategies, and agile cross-border logistics.
Dr Yap highlighted the need for smoother trade processes, improvements in supply chain resilience, and enhancing regional connectivity. The meeting emphasised that both countries should leverage their strengths to improve the economic landscape within ASEAN and the broader global market.
Dr Yap further commented how the complementary strengths of Malaysia and Singapore can be connected more effectively, and the role of MSBC in translating dialogue into practical business outcomes: “Malaysia and Singapore have highly complementary strengths. By connecting these capabilities more effectively, we can create a more competitive and resilient economic ecosystem that benefits businesses on both sides of the border. MSBC can play an important role in bringing the business community together to identify practical areas where closer cooperation can deliver tangible results.”
