Christine Tan of CNBC Asia recently interviewed Dr Robert Yap for an exclusive feature on CNBC’s longest running programme “Managing Asia”. Dr Yap shared about his journey over four decades with the company, and how the company had expanded from a traditional passenger transportation company to a world-beating supply chain solutions partner with a vast regional presence.

Dr Yap also shared that he is not worried about the slowdown in the global economy, citing growth from emerging economies, including Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia, as reasons to be optimistic about the logistics industry.

Dr Yap believes that investing heavily in technology will enable the company to differentiate itself from its competitors. "We are not adverse to investment [and] we are not afraid to invest for the long haul," he says.

This is the second time he is being featured on the programme. Dr Yap last spoke to Christine in 2009.

Dr Yap also spoke to Dawn Tan of Channel NewsAsia for the programme, Money Mind which was looking at Disrupting Trends in the industry. He spoke about the “uberisation” of logistics, which will benefit the industry as a whole, in particular, smaller logistics players. YCH is currently developing various platforms to better leverage on disruptive technologies emerging in the market.
