YCH Supports ITE’s Enhance Internships Initiative with 110 Other Companies

Enhanced Internship is one of the national SkillsFuture initiatives for ITEs in Singapore to work hand-in-hand with industries to promote work-based skills acquisition and skills deepening. This is important to help the country build the skilled workforce of the future and to retain them in specific sectors to meet these sectors current and future needs.

As part of the official launch of the Enhanced Internships initiative, ITE organised a Symbolic Signing Ceremony for the ITE Internship Participation Agreement. Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education & Skills) Mr Ong Ye Kung was the Guest-of-Honor for the event. YCH Group had earlier signed the ITE Enhanced Internship Agreement and was thus invited for this Symbolic Signing Ceremony to signify our invaluable support. Representing YCH was Victor Yeow, Country General Manager of Singapore. YCH was one of the 110 companies, from sectors such as hospitality, engineering, business, and infocomm technology, inked agreements with ITE at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport hotel yesterday. Besides YCH, other companies there include the Fullerton Hotel, PSA Marine, OCBC Bank, Sentosa Development Corporation, SBS Transit and SMRT.

This symbolic signing ceremony was a milestone gathering of all the pioneering participating companies to send a strong signal to the media and the public about the endorsement and support of the industries for this manpower development partnership.

The internships facilitate better mentorship and allow students to learn clearly defined skills, and are a component of full-time Nitec or Higher Nitec courses offered by the ITE. The internships are also starting point for students to explore the vocations they are interested in. A total of 63 of ITE's 101 courses, including those in retail services and space design technology, will offer such internships from as early as January.

ITE chief executive Bruce Poh said that while ITE could do as much as it would like to make classroom learning as authentic as possible, but there is nothing like working in a real environment. Such internships allow students to put into practice the work-related skills learnt in school, as well as help them acquire soft skills such as creativity. Students will undergo training based on a prescribed list of tasks agreed upon by ITE and the internship firm, and the roles and responsibilities of ITE and these companies will also be clearly stated.

The shadow of the combination represents the Chinese character sheng ‘升’ or RISE, YCH’s corporate philosophy.  The combination also resembles ye ‘叶’, the first character of our Chinese company name ‘叶水福’.
