Enhancing ASEAN’s Business Potential with the AEC:
Insights from the ASEAN-EU Business Summit

Executive Chairman of YCH Group, Dr Robert Yap participated in the ASEAN-EU Business Summit that took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 23 August 2015.

Speaking on the Business Leaders’ Panel, Dr Yap shared insights on successful business strategies in ASEAN based on YCH’s operational history in the region. In view of the fragmented nature of the Asian market, Dr Yap touched upon the lack of a ‘one size fits all’ solution, advising businesses to ‘think global while acting local’. He added that logistics would also play a key role in unlocking the region’s potential by facilitating the flow of goods and finances.

Together with Mr Peter ter Kulve of Unilever, Mr Donald Kanak of Prudential Corporation Asia, and YM Tengku Dato'Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz of CIMB Investment Bank, Dr Yap also elaborated upon the imminent formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), placing the spotlight on the potential benefits to be reaped through a closer-knit region and the removal of barriers to trade. The panel was moderated by Tan Sri Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid, Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council.

The shadow of the combination represents the Chinese character sheng ‘升’ or RISE, YCH’s corporate philosophy.  The combination also resembles ye ‘叶’, the first character of our Chinese company name ‘叶水福’.
