Beijing, CHINA, 13 May 2010 -
Leading Singapore-based logistics and supply chain management (SCM) company YCH Group entered a new segment of the consumer goods industry as it began servicing the logistic needs of its new MNC client, cosmetics giant Mary Kay China– beginning 18 January 2010.
Under this partnership, YCH will work with Mary Kay China throughout Northern China to fulfill distribution in various Chinese cities by leveraging Beijing as the Regional Distribution Centre (RDC). The hub boasts a state-of-the-art facility with temperature-controlled features which ensure that finished cosmetic goods retain a high quality throughout the different seasons. The facility is strategically situated in a prime location which is in close proximity to its Order Picking Points (OPPs) across Northern China.
“China’s consumer profile is rapidly changing and with the Chinese becoming more discerning in their choice of beauty and personal care products, quality assurance is increasingly emerging as a decisive factor in their selection and purchase of cosmetics and skincare. Mary Kay has always placed a strong emphasis on quality and excellence; and with YCH’s complete suite of supply chain services, we are able to translate this quality assurance to our customers through more effective handling and delivery management.” said Paul Mak, President of Mary Kay Greater China.
The partnership has already set its sights on growing and venturing into other new Chinese cities together, taking advantage of the fast-emerging consumer market in China and increase in affluence and spending power of the Chinese consumer.
“This is an exciting foray for YCH as we partner Mary Kay China to meet the growing demands of the Chinese cosmetics sector. Just as Mary Kay has the mission of Enriching Women’s Lives, YCH also strongly believes in delivering sustainable supply chain processes that are empowering with lasting benefits to the end consumer. With our network and experience in consumer fulfillment throughout Asia and China, YCH is confident that this will be a win-win partnership for YCH and Mary Kay China, as both companies continue to expand in China and the region,” said Dr. Robert Yap, Chairman and CEO, YCH Group.

The range of goods handled will be comprehensive; from skincare products like the award-winning TimeWise® 3-in-1 Cleanser to cosmetic goods such as its renowned Mary Kay® Concealer. Given the limited lifespan and delicate nature of the products, logistical efficiency is crucial in the handling and management of such luxury goods. To help Mary Kay China administer its inventory more efficiently, YCH’s RFID applications will be able to provide real-time updates and end-to-end supply chain visibility to allow enhanced forecasting and stock analyses. Its real-time visibility also ensures that all distributed Mary Kay products will remain well within its shelf life, thereby delivering high quality goods promised to its customers.
YCH has also introduced a new logistics flow solution, specially customised to cater to Mary Kay’s direct sales business model. Apart from the usual warehousing storage, transportation and distribution services, YCH’s use of sophisticated IT systems will also enable the provision of various value-added services as well as a customised “pick-to-light” (P2L) system to facilitate the highest level of accuracy and real-time feedback, crucial for the complex sorting and picking requirements. Together, YCH’s entire SCM package will provide a seamless, end-to-end process and distribution flow to fit Mary Kay China’s multifaceted supply chain needs.
YCH is one of the pioneer Singapore firms to enter the Chinese market, in Shanghai in the mid 1990s. It has since built a comprehensive logistics network in the country with presence in gateway cities such as Tianjin, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau and Hong Kong servicing other MNC customers such as Dell, DSM and Motorola. Recently in October 2009, the Group also entered into a partnership with various Chengdu government agencies to establish an advanced sustainable supply chain framework for the entire city.
